When you have found the number you would like to purchase, make sure that it can be transferred to your vehicle. (You cannot transfer a number plate to a vehicle to make it appear newer than it is, eg, a car that originally bore a 'T' year prefix plate may not display a 'X' prefix plate as that would falsely make the vehicle appear younger than it is.

If you do not have a vehicle to transfer the number plate to or you are buying it as a surprise present for someone, you may still purchase your registration and retain it on a certificate until you are ready to transfer it. This is available with the majority of personalised registration numbers but not all.
